Instructions for Use

Reltone® 200 mg & 400 mg ursodiol capsules, USP, lowers the cholesterol in bile, which helps dissolve cholesterol-based gallstones. Changing the composition of bile makes it easier for the body to break down and remove the stones.

How to Use Reltone®

Step 1

Determine Dosage

The recommended dose for treating radiolucent gallbladder stones with Reltone® is 8-10 mg/kg/day. This dosage should be divided into 2 or 3 doses throughout the day to minimize side effects.
Step 2

Regular Administration

It is crucial to take Reltone® consistently at the same times each day to maintain stable bile acid levels, which is essential for the gradual dissolution of gallstones.
Step 3

Monitor Progress with Ultrasound

Begin with an ultrasound of the gallbladder to establish a baseline before starting Reltone® therapy. Continue to monitor progress with additional ultrasound images every 6 months during the first year of treatment to assess the response of gallstones to Reltone.
Step 4

Evaluate Dissolution

If gallstones appear to be dissolving, it is important to confirm this finding with a repeat ultrasound within 1 to 3 months. This helps to ensure that the dissolution is complete and to determine whether continued treatment with Reltone® is necessary.
Step 5

Assess After 12 Months

If there is no sign of partial stone dissolution by the 12-month evaluation, the likelihood of successful treatment with Reltone® is significantly reduced. At this point, consider alternative treatments or adjustments to the therapy plan.
